En biostratigrafisk undersökning av conodontfaunan i Limbatakalkstenen på lokalen "Stenbrottet" i Västergötland

The conodont fauna recovered from the Arenig strata of the "Stenbrottet" quarry represents two biozones, i. e. the underlying Baltoniodus triangularis/B. navis Zone and above, the Paroistodus originalis Zone. The thickness of the sediment and the composition of the conodont fauna were compared with those of contemporaneous localities from Öland, Västergötland, Jämtland and Bottenviken. It is evident that the conodont fauna of the Baltoniodus triangularis/B. navisZone is close to those of Jämtland and an adjacent locality in Västergötland, which also show the greatest similarity in the conodont fauna of the Paroistodus originalis Zone. The sediment thickness of the strata at the "Stenbrottet" quarry, however, is best matched by the localities of Öland. An interesting variant of the drepanodontiform element of Paroistodus originalis, featuring a distinct lateral costa on either side of the cusp, was found in two samples
